Dog Attack

Last night there was quite a bit of excitement. I took the kids to the park down the street, and my mom and dad and sister Camille came with. We had a nice time and were there about an hour. On our way back we were on the sidewalk, walking single file to let others pass who were going the other way. A little boy and an older girl went by with a little puppy. We stopped and talked with them, the kids asked if they could pet the dog. It was a nice doggie and they were allowed to pet him. They walked on and we walked on. Shortly thereafter, not even 5 minutes, a man is coming with a big dog. The dog is on a leash, but the man doesn't try to pull him away, even though the dog is barking and lunging at each of us, as if to bite. None of us tried to pet this dog or stopped to talk with the man or anything. We were simply walking by, and especially didn't want to get close to this dog since he was behaving so aggressively. Well, my mom and sister were bringing up the rear. The dog lunged and barked and attacked my sister and bit her on the upper left arm. My mom started yelling, "He bit her! He bit Camille!" We stopped, the man stopped. My parents showed the man where his dog bit Camille. The kids at that point didn't understand what was going on and thought we were maybe stopping to pet the dog, so they started to go over to it. I yelled sharply at them to get back, which they did and we moved further away from the man and dog. My parents asked the man where he lived and he was very vague, reluctantly giving any info like his name or specifics on the dog. My dad stayed to get more specific info from the man and my mom, sister and the kids walked back to the house. (in a sidenote here, for those that don't know, we currently live with my parents while we get established down here and find our own place). Anyway, so upon getting back to the house, my mom shows Steve Camille's arm and asks if they should call the police, and Steve thought so. So we ended up having the fire dept come and bandage up Camille's arm and get info. They also talked with the man with the dog, who we discovered happens to live only about 4 houses down the street. The police also came to make a report and talked with both him and the parents. Animal Control also went to the man's house to check things out. It was recommended by the fire dept paramedics that my parents take Camille to the ER to be checked out (which they were going to do anyway). So after all of the excitement, that's what they did. I'm not sure what time they got back last night, but it was probably after midnight. My mom made the comment this morning that Camille is always the one getting bitten by dogs, and that my other sister Carrie is the one who gets into car accidents. And me? I have weird, random stuff happen to me, usually to my left side. Like eating at a pizza place and the waitress dumping an entire pizza on me and me getting 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my left leg, left side of my chest, and left ankle. Or me stepping outside my front door and breaking my left foot. Or me playing in the backyard and stepping on a wood board with a rusty nail in it and it going through my left foot. Or me sitting still in my car, an accident happens on the other side of the road and the other car comes over the median and hits me on the opposite side of the road (on - you guessed it! - the left side of my car).
See all the excitement I would have missed had I been at work? I actually thought I had to work, so I drove all the way there for my shift that started at 6pm, only to discover that I read the schedule wrong and didn't notice the "ci", which stands for "call-in" in front of the 6-11. A call-in means you might work if they need you, but if not then you don't work. So I drove all that way and discovered that it was actually just a call-in and that they didn't need me! Sigh! Ah well. At least I was around for all the excitement...

A fun part of last night, though, was that the firemen offered to show Joseph their truck! So he got to see the inside and they even put one of their firehats on him! Way cool! Unfortunately, I didn't have the camera with me and totally missed that photo opportunity! I am still kicking myself for that one.

The bite look painful! What a jerk of a man to be so elusive with facts! Wonder if his dog has bitten before!

What an eventful night! I can't believe that man wasn't controlling his dog...have you found out if animal control is going to do anything about it! I hope your sister's arm is okay!
